Pain Management

Relieving Discomfort with Medicine and Compassion

Pain Management at Companion Animal Hospital

Whether the pain is from illness, injury, or recuperating from surgery, our goal is to manage, minimize, or eliminate your pet’s pain. At Companion Animal Hospital, we will provide the highest quality care to alleviate your pet’s discomfort. We will also teach you methods and pain relief options to use at home.

Signs of Pain

Animals instinctively hide pain, so it’s important to be aware of common symptoms. This includes:

  • Excessive licking or biting
  • Lethargy
  • Limping
  • Loss of appetite
  • Panting
  • Reluctance to move or jump
  • Hiding
  • Howling, whining, or other abnormal vocal cues
  • Changes in behavior (e.g., growling or overt aggression)

If your pet displays any of these signs or has experienced a recent trauma, please contact us immediately for an examination.

Dental Care & Pain Management
While dental cleanings are generally painless, other procedures (such as extractions) are potentially painful. In this case, we control pain through prevention rather than treatment. Local anesthetic injections (nerve blocks) are used to keep your pet from ever experiencing pain. At-home medications may also be prescribed if we anticipate your pet will experience discomfort after leaving our hospital.
Our Pharmacy
Our on-site pharmacy stocks a variety of pet pharmaceuticals. Our team is always happy to answer questions and to discuss appropriate dosage and administration techniques. For your convenience, we also offer online prescription refills.
